SNAP Program

RECENT SNAP PROGRAM UPDATES

  • The federal government has implemented stricter SNAP work requirements for adults aged 18-64 without dependents. Visit ABE’s website to learn more about these work requirements and how it affects you: illinois.gov/access/
  • Due to potential federal funding interruptions, Illinois is directing $20 million to food banks, which are bracing for increased demand.
  • In July 2025, President Trump signed a new federal law removing SNAP eligibility for certain immigrants who are legally present in the country. Learn whether your immigration status qualifies you for SNAP here: org/updates/snap-citizenship/

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly funds to help eligible individuals buy groceries.
